OMG... i need major help.. i have a lot of questions...

Post by Suitner92 »

\My project is "create your own spark"

Why does the spark happen?
why does the number of turns create a larger spark?

How does the spark happen?
how does the spark gap induction coil circut works?
how does the coil detect the vibrator?

What causes the spark to increase?
what are the properties & characteristics of the induction coil?
what is the relation between the spark gap and the induction coil?

When does the spark gap induction coil cause a spark?

where does the spark occur?

PLEASE ANSWER ASAP!!!!

You need to do some research on this topic- we won't do your project for you. You should read the wikipedia articles referenced in the bibliography of the project and follow the links in those articles as needed.

Some of your questions are answered in the project description itself. (where does the spark occur? why does the spark happen?) are both answered in the project.

Once you've done some reading, post back here and we'll help. But you have to show that you have done research and tried to understand this.

Also searching this forum for spark gap will find a bunch of threads which may answer your questions.

I have really honestly done a lot of research. And i had most of them answered i just wanted to double check and make sure they werent wrong.

I did more research and im still unable to find the answers to..

What is the relation between the spark gap and the induction coil?

What are the properties and characteristic of the induction coil?

Why does the number of turn create a larger spark?

If You can answer ANY of these i would really appreciate it.

Well, it looks like you could answer about 1/2 the questions on your own!

I don't know what you are asking here.
What are the properties and characteristic of the induction coil?
Same here. This is very vague. For example, "made of wire" is a characteristic of the induction coil, but I don't think that is what you are trying to ask
Why does the number of turn create a larger spark?
Number of turns on which coil? Does it actually create a larger spark?

By characteristics i mean what do they have in common... such as wiring that would be one...

and the number of coils... i was told by some professional that the tighter the coils and the more coils wrapped around the carriage bolt the bigger the spark...

was it wrong??

There are two coils and the ratio of the coils on the two determine the voltage.

Changing the voltage could change the amount of air broken down, but I am not sure it would appear bigger. A higher voltage means that you could widen the gap and get a longer spark. But, I'm not sure for the same length gap you could observe a difference, unless you were at the borderline between spark and no spark. Note what I said- "observe a difference" as opposed to "there is a difference". If you are interested, you should try this experiment.

I still don't understand the question "what do the spark gap and the induction coil have in common?""what are the characteristics". You built the device- list what they have in common. I don't know what you mean by spark gap either... do you mean the gap that the spark jumps across or the entire device? What scientific question are you trying to answer with this question?

Is your whole class doing this project?
