Portable water filter using reliable and cheap materials

Post by anonymousdolphin »

Hi, for my science fair project I decided to make a portable water filter that is simple and uses reliable and cheap materials. My problem is that I don't know where to start with making my own unique yet simple water filter and I can't find much information on how commercially available water filtration systems work. Do you have any suggestions or advice for me on what materials I should use and what I should do to make it unique? I would really appreciate it if I can get help soon.

anonymousdolphin,

Thank you for your question. What question are you trying to answer with the scientific method? Just making a water filter sounds like an engineering project. Perhaps if you used the scientific method to determine the best materials and techniques to use in a home filter. You would need several of the more common materials and water test kit able to test for the contaminants you are trying to remove.

Here is a link to a website that explains how water filters work and why they usually use more than one filtering technique.

Hope this helps.

Hello, anonymousdolphin!

Here's another way you can do an experiment using water filters! Check out this science buddy project idea: https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... #materials

Even if you choose not do the same experiment, there's a lot of helpful hints as to how to build a water filter and what materials you can use! Hope this helps :)
