The Stanford Prison Experiment
I am currently doing a project and must identify the variables in The Stanford Prison Experiment. I believe the independent variable is the role, either guard or prisoner and that the dependent varialbe is the resulting behavior. However, I am confused. What about the prison conditions (situational evironment) . . . and what about the individual personalities? I'm very confused a this point. Please share what you might be able to offer about this experiment. Thanks so much, angelinna

Well...first off...I am very excited that you are choosing this topic as your project/ research study.
The author of this is Phillip Zimbardo at Stanford and contacting him directly should not be very hard. He is a very nice man and will welcome questions.If you cant reach him directly look at his website, lucifereffect.com.
Other topics to tie in or research as well...Zimbardo relates his Stanford Prison Study to the Abu Ghraib Prison incidents as well. Research this...while the study occurred some years prior to Abu Ghraib, it's correlations are extremely ironic.
Unfortunately, I did not get to you soon enough to tell you that Zimbardo was talking at Cal State Monterey Bay a few days ago. He talked for 2 hours on Abu Ghraib but also his Prison study. I would look on his site for further speaking engagements and would encourage you to attend one of them.
Also, if you like reading and have enough time, buy or rent his book too.
