See this website for a description of one common way to test scents:
http://www.camo.com/resources/sensory-panels.html
You would need to recruit your panelists from your friends and family. To do the training referred to one the website, your panel would need to meet, all smell the same perfume, and then try to agree on how to desribe the scent in words. You have succeeded when you can all smell the same scent and then write a description of it, and you all use about the same words to describe it.
You may also want to read the "related references" on the left side of the cited website for more information on sensory panels.
As to how long the scents last, one way would be to put a drop on a paper (a plain coffee filter would work well), put it aside, and smell it about once an hour until it does not have any odor. You can compare multiple perfumes this way and get a fair idea of their relative persistence.
