What exactly is a Cradle to Grave project?
I'm so confused. I know its how we get something, how we use this thing, then how we dispose of it, but from there on out I'm completely lost. I know this isn't an actual science project (like with a board and the whole nine yards) but I thought maybe someone here could help me out a bit. This project just needs to be a research paper. I just need to know what a Cradle to Grave is and if we have to use any specific things like element based stuff (for instance if we had to use sodium nitrate or nitric acid) or if we could just use something "normal" (like a bar of soap or eyeliner).

"Cradle to grave" is the term used to concisely summarize the complete cycle, starting from concepts, to final use and disposal, as you correctly pointed out, of an engineering system. In these modern times of scarce materials and desire to minimize solid waste, more attention is being paid to design, production, reuse, and hopefully, recycling of engineering systems - a healthy trend IMO!
An example of a "cradle to grave" engineering system: an automobile that is designed to meet certain consumer needs; the vehicle passing into production; then as it ages, perhaps being recycled with its valuable components removed for metals recovery, tire recycling, and other potentially useful end-of-life applications.
Are you thinking of doing a project that illustrates or embodies this concept? This is an interesting idea, far more socially useful than simply throwing away a product after its service life is done.

Hi, Karen!
You can certainly use "normal" stuff as the object of your research paper. I suspect your teacher is trying to get you and your classmates to think about the entire life cycle of the products you see and use every day.
