Hydroponics for a science fair project

We need some ideas as to what to do my daughter's expt. on. Thinking of comparing grow of swedish ivy in hydroponic sysem vs. soil. Or maybe 2 hydroponic plants and comparing nutrient deficiency such as nitrogen. Any other ideas or comments?
