What does a good presentation look like?

AFTER you've done your research and concluded your experiments, it is time to prepare for the science fair. Ask specific questions about preparing for a science fair, including how to set up your display board, how to prepare a presentation, etc. (Please post questions about selecting a project or conducting your experiment by posting in the appropriate "area of science" forum.)

What does a good presentation look like?

Post by janet41 »

I've found a lot of written descriptions of how to do a science fair presentation, but I am looking for websites with audio/visual examples of what a good presentation looks like for a middle school science fair project. Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi Janet_425 - Most science fair presentations involve a "project display board." It's what would be used at a science fair and might also be what a student is expected to have to do an in-class presentation. Have you looked at the Science Buddies display board materials yet?

We just ran a blog piece this week on display boards which has some "overview" information:
https://www.sciencebuddies.org/blog/201 ... -board.php

And then you'll find additional in-depth materials here (also linked from within the blog article): https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... oard.shtml

The resources offer a number of examples of what finished display boards look like, as well as a schematic that can be very handy for planning the board.

Sorry that my question wasn't clear.

Our display board is done, we are working on our oral presentation part now. It can be a maximum of 10 minutes. I have been clicking on various youtube searches and found a couple of decent examples, but I find more bad ones than good ones. I was hoping to find a website with curated examples: i.e. say this, don't talk like that, with actual audio/visual examples.

Hi,

Have you tried googling, 'Tips for giving a good scientific talk?' I did that and found several websites with good information. I'm sure you could do the same for just 'tips for giving a good talk' or some similar wording.

Good luck!

I've tried all sorts of keywords on google and youtube. Just haven't quite found what I wanted!
The best one I found was the first girl on this TED talk:

http://blog.ted.com/2012/01/10/award-wi ... n-ted-com/

She is middle-school aged, has a very well organized talk, and the sound quality is good. The only negative is that she is using power point rather than a backboard.

A Good Science Presentation Is Something That Looks Neat And Organized. It Needs To Look Like You Know What Your Talking About. Graphs and Pictures Are Great Also :D
