Can this project considered to a computer science project?

Dear Experts,

I am asking this question on behalf of my daughter, a 8th grader. She is interested in this project

I think it is in bioinformatic area, which still belongs to computer science category. Her lead science fair teacher would not approve this. Her argument is that any computer science projects should involving programming. I hope to get advice from you about which category this project should be, is it computer science or biology, or something else. Timely reply is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!

In my opinion this is a microbiology project, not computer science.
