Titration Project - Soluble starch

Post by rbhagat12 »

Doing a vitamin C titration using the sciencebuddies orange titration kit. We are making a starch solution of 200mL but after the starch is dissolved and cooled down, the solution decreases in quantity and is only about 25-50mL. Wondering if this is supposed to happen or not?

Hello,

This sounds like a fun project! The starch solution decreasing in volume that much is unexpected.

Are you measuring 200 mL of distilled water into the pot using a graduated cylinder or other measuring device?

How long are you boiling the water for before turning off the stove? Boiling causes evaporation which will slowly decrease the amount of water in the pot.

What type of soluble starch are you using?
