Spring Constant in Paper Speaker Kit

Post by Mariegbadebo »

I am a student in AP Physics C: Mechanics, and I used the Paper Speaker Kit (SKU: SB-PAPSPK) for my research project. I am currently in the process of writing the research paper, and I need to know the spring constant of the spring in the kit. Is there an official spring constant value associated with this spring?

Hi - there is no official spring constant for the "spring" in this kit. It's just folded paper, and there will be some variation in exactly how each person cuts, and folds, and glues it, so the resulting spring constant may also vary. You could do a simple experiment to calculate the spring constant by putting small weights on top of the speaker and measuring the deflection.
