Hi Cathy,
Welcome to the Ask an Expert forum.
Are you or your child planning to conduct an experiment, or is this a general question? If it is an experiment, how can we help you?
Thanks,
Chris

Hello cathy,

In order to help you more efficiently, it would be great if you could provide us with more information, like ChrisG has said. I am guessing you are focusing on something related to this experiment: https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... p017.shtml
Generally, potatoes grow roots from the "eyes", which are the lateral buds of a potato: http://kentsimmons.uwinnipeg.ca/16cm05/ ... age003.gif
Try looking around on this site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potato

Hope this helps.
