my experiment is about decomposing/treating animal waste using yeast, sugar and water...

I need other substitutes to "feed" yeast aside from sugar mixed with hot water...
I also need to know what other chemicals can be used to decompose or treat animal waste so that I could compare and see which is better...

Hi palomapicart,

Welcome to the forum!

First, I will tell you that your question seems better suited to the Life, Earth, and Social Sciences Forum, which deals with projects about "biology, biochemistry, genomics, microbiology, molecular biology, pharmacology/toxicology, zoology, human behavior, archeology, anthropology, political science, sociology, geology, environmental science, oceanography, seismology, weather, or atmosphere." This isn't to be nitpicky, but because experts check the forums that are best suited to our areas of expertise, and you want the most knowledgeable people to read your question. A moderator will probably move this thread over there, or you could repost your question to possibly get a faster response:

In the meantime, even though I'm mostly a physicist, here's some background reading to get you started:

I have moved this topic to the life sciences forum.

Usually, there are so many naturally occurring microbes in manure that no microbial additions are necessary for composting. It is more a matter of arriving at the right ratio of carbon to nitrogen in the mixture. I would recommend including a control trial with no yeast added to see how much of a difference that makes.

Good luck!
