Homosexuality

Post by kairi19 »

Is there any way i can conduct a science fair project on homosexuality. Though, i wanted to see if you can determine if one is borned with homosexuality or is influence by society.

Thanks.

Hi kairi19.

After seeking advice from "Real" Science Professionals
about your Question,
this is the suggested answer to your Post:

"from a purely scientific perspective,
this project would be very hard to conduct accurately
for a science fair project."

There are other subjects that could be used that are Original,
like for example,
"What causes voice disorders that are not genetic like Spasmodic Dysphonia?"

One resource for this Topic:
National Spasmodic Dysphonia Association
http://www.dysphonia.org/

Good Luck on choosing your Topic and Question for your Project!
Best Regards,

Hi, Kairi19!

I agree with the advice that this would make a difficult science fair project to conduct. You might check out the following part of the Science buddies web site for help selecting a topic:

If....

If people have been researching this for years with millions of dollars to fund it, it would seem near impossible to determine this in a science fair project.

The short answer is "no you cannot."

The longer answer is that sexual attraction isn't even close to being well enough understood to do a short, simple, controlled variable experiment. Even if such an experiment was possible from a legal and social standpoint.

If you're interested in the topic, I recommend doing some quick google searches just to see how huge the topic is, and how contentious a topic it is.

I agree that the topic of homosexuality would not be an appropriate topic in the realm of science, even though many have tried.

Here is a thought that can be related to it: How about the psychology involved?

History has shown that homosexuality has been deemed: disease of the mind.

But again, I would stick far from this.

The problem is between science and the mind, as well as being factored by social, ethical, polical, and religious views.

bradleyshanrock-solberg is correct about how knowledge about sexual attracted is too limited for a controlled variable experiment. Thus, the experiment would have flaws and uncontrollable factors.

Thats my 2 cents. Trying to help :)
