This video shows how a bimetallic jumping disc works. A bimetallic disc is made from two different metals with slightly different coefficients of thermal expansion. The disc is slightly bowed, and it "snaps" through to the opposite position when it heats up or cools down past a certain point. In this project, you will learn about heat transfer and find out how the temperature of its surroundings affects the behavior of the jumping disc.

What's it really like to be an engineer or a scientist? What do they really do all day? You're about to find out! Meet the next generation of engineers and scientists in these profiles of young professionals, who may just inspire you to join them. Roselle Rojas shows us some of the latest biochemistry projects taking place at Gatorade's Sport Science Institute and what her typical day is like inside and outside the lab.
Students act as if they are biological engineers following the steps of the engineering design process to design and create protein models to replace the defective proteins in a child’s body. Jumping off from a basic understanding of DNA and its transcription and translation processes, students learn about the many different proteins types and what happens if protein mutations occur. Then they focus on structural, transport and defense proteins during three challenges posed by the R&D…
WSU Innovators program for Spring 2011. Professors Bill Pan and Su Ha talk about biofuel production - from cultivating biomass to producing biofuel to creating clean electrical energy. This biofuel is primarily created from canola, camelina, sunflower and safflower oilseed crops grown in Washington State and the Pacific Northwest.
Learn the basics about biological detergents as part of the organic chemistry within everyday life.

This video is an introduction to the Science Buddies BlueBot kit. The kit contains a chassis and circuit parts to build four different versions of the robot: light following, line following, motion activated, and obstacle avoiding. This is a great introductory robotics kit with no computer or programming required to get it up and running, but it is Arduino compatible. Kits are available for purchase from our partner Home Science Tools®:…
