Disposal of agar plate
Disposal of agar plate
I had tried out an experiment a few weeks ago involving growing bacteria from different water sources on agar plates at home. Now, I am done with the experiment and a few of my plates have bacterial colonies on them and one has fungi(???) on it. I have been keeping them within sealed ziploc bags and I've seen on many websites not to ever take them out of the bag once you put them in and not to take the cover off of the dish, and I've also seen…

Converting a ketone to a double bond, alkylation
Converting a ketone to a double bond, alkylation
Hey, I'm trying to figure out the compound/type of reaction needed to get from the molecule at the top to the one at the bottom (Step I).
The main issue is that I can't think of an alkylation which converts a ketone to a C/C double bond without leaving a methyl group.
If it were an aldehyde, then it would be a rather simple Wittig reaction, but a Wittig reaction forms a double bond at the C…

Need help with a question about this experiment on germination of seedlings
Need help with a question about this experiment on germination of seedlings. I did an experiment where we used seedlings of Lepidium sativum to see under which conditions it would germinate. We'd use cotton wool and dampen it, and placing the seedlings at the bottom. Depending on which bottle it was, some were mixed with dampened cotton wool,…

Slime Mould escaping !
Slime Mould escaping !
Hi!
I am currently completely a year 11 experiment for biology, investigating the effect of essential oils as natural enzyme inhibitors on a sample of Physarum polycephalum (slime mould). I have finished the actual experiment now, but have still been growing the slime mould and the plan was to freeze it for long term storage and use it again in year 12.
However, yesterday the slime was starting to escape the petri dish and so I just left it and…

Finding Project/Idea/Field for Science Fair
Hello there!
My name is Brindha Srivatsav and I am a rising sophomore (as of this fall). I did Science Research in my freshman year and my project was in the Environmental Engineering field. For my project last year, I built three different microbial fuel cells and tested which level of nitrogen affected the overall output (electricity output) the most.
However, this year, I want to plan ahead for my…

I need an expert's opinion regarding my research paper.
I need an expert's opinion regarding my research paper.
My paper is entitled "Analyzing the Potential of Crescentia cujete in SARS-CoV-2 Treatment". My research shows that certain phytochemicals in this fruit like quercetin and more can help combat CoVid-19. Is it safe to assume that this fruit as a whole can really fight CoVid-19? I also need more of your expert's opinions. Thank you very muchh :D
