Testing for Iodine in Various Salts - Science Fair
We're working on the testing of salts for iodine for the 6th grade science fair. But the teacher insists that the results cannot be comparative. In other words, just testing for the presence of iodine is not sufficient. Any suggestions on determining levels of iodine using the procedures outlined in the Science Buddies project?

Re: Testing for Iodine in Various Salts - Science Fair
Hello Denise and welcome to Science Buddies,
This is a fascinating science project. If you look at the section "Make it your own" there are several suggestions for extending the project beyond simply testing for the presence of iodine. Ont of those suggestions refers you to this project:
https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... n-kinetics
This would involve recording how long it takes for the reaction. Recording the time will give you quantitative data which you could then show on a graph. Also. both projects also suggest that you take a picture of each reaction. You could use the photos in your project display to make an eye-catching display board!
I hope this gives you some ideas for extending this project. Be sure to let us know if you have more questions!
