Me and my friends are doing project for graduating. We decided to extract beta carotene from carrot to inhibit the pathogenicity of Agrobacterium tumefaciens in cotyledons. At first we try to powder carrot then use ethanol to separate water and oil in carrot then ethanol will evaporate now we have layer of oil and water so we use separatory funnel to separate water and oil then we use petroleum ether to extract beta carotene from oil but we can't find way to extract petroleum…

Simple Electric Motor - question about variables
Simple Electric Motor - question about variables
Our 7th grade daughter is using C cell batteries plus the neodymium magnets & paperclips that came in the Electric Motor Generator kit. To determine what her one allowed variable should be for her to use, she has tried testing the project with just one battery & one magnet as her control, which work fine, and then she tried testing the same configuration with a second magnet & then…

Simple Electric Motor - question about coil loop size
Simple Electric Motor - question about coil loop size
My 7th grade daughter has tested out different coil loop sizes. (She is using C cell batteries plus the paper clips & the cylindrical neodymium magnets that came with the Electric Generator motor kit.) When she uses a highlighter (which is thicker than a Fine Point Sharpie marker) to create her coil wire loop (to be able to duplicate what’s recommended in the Science Buddies…

Question about cutting a source needle
Question about cutting a source needle
Hi,
I am doing the "Particles in the Mist" project and I was wondering why I need to cut my PB-210 needle before putting it in the cloud chamber. It fits in the petri dish even if I don't cut it, so I was wondering if there is another reason.
Thank you! :)

Which Liquid Melts Ice Fastest
Which Liquid Melts Ice Fastest
I put ice cubes (made of water) into cups of liquids (milk, green tea, water, mango juice, coke and saltwater) to find out which liquid melts ice fastest. The result is that water melts ice fastest while mango juice melts ice slowest.
I think because of the high density liquids (that is mango juice) sink at the bottom of the cup and did not flow to the top of the to give heat energy to the ice cube to melt. In water, because…

Lip balm project
Lip balm project
Hello,
My daughter is testing vegan, plant-based lip balm recipes (adapted from the lip balm project from science buddies replacing bees wax with candelilla wax). She figured that she could use leaves which have netted pattern like the lips such as ficus leaves or hibiscus leaves. She ordered a ficus leaf plant from Amazon. She ordered a wrong moisture meter though, because what she would like is to measure moisture retention on the leaf. She ordered a…

Separating microplastics from biochar
Separating microplastics from biochar
Hi, I’m working on a science research project about biochar adsorption of microplastics. Im working with a mixture of microplastics bound to biochar, free biochar, and free microplastics. Does anyone know of a way to determine quantitatively how much of each component would be in a mixture. Alternatively, does anyone know how I would separate the components of this mixture?
