cress seed orientation in microgravity project cress seed orientation in microgravity project The directions say "The micropyle on each seed should point downward, in the direction of the arrow." Does this mean the micropyle is "down" as in parallel to the arrow, or literally pointing towards the arrow (so the seeds on the sides are at an angle)? Or perhaps it means "down" as pointing to the base of the petri plate when it is sitting flat on the table? Thanks for clarifying this. Re:… Read more

Making Marshmallows Making Marshmallows I’m having a hard time understanding what my independent and dependent variables would be. Would the independent variables be the ratio of corn syrup to sugar? Re: Making Marshmallows Hello, Are you following this STEM Activity Guide? If so, it is not intended to be an experiment with independent and dependent variables. https://www.sciencebuddies.org/stem-activities/make-marshmallows Or are you following this Science Project Guide? Help with a catchy yet informative science fair project title Help with a catchy yet informative science fair project title Hello! My son did an engineering project for science fair this year. He created dams out of rock, soil, sand, and clay inside of a large, clear slightly tilted container to test the permeability of each material. He wanted to see which dam material would hold back the most water in a flood situation. He timed and measured the amount of water for each material. He wanted… Read more

netCDF extractor for Mac netCDF extractor for Mac Hi, The project I'm working on requires me to analyze data in netCDF form. I've been trying to find a free netCDF extractor that works on a Mac, but haven't had any luck. I was wondering if anyone could help me find a netCDF extractor that works, or if there are any student versions I can download for free? Thanks! Re: netCDF extractor for Mac Here's info about panoply: https://www.giss.nasa.gov/tools/panoply/ Does that work for what you… Read more

Re: Specific Heat Capacity Question Re: Specific Heat Capacity Question (Sorry, didn't read the guidelines as well as I thought! Updating this post with proper grammar.) Hey! This is probably not that great of a question, but I'm unsure where else to ask - I'd ask my teacher, but we're in the midst of winter break right now. In this ScienceBuddies project, the q=mCpΔt equation has Cp as specific heat capacity, which the project states is .001 when converting to kCal. However, in class and… Read more

I love astronomy and know a lot about it and the sub-categories contained in it (ex. radio astronomy, astrophysics, etc.). I have looked online to… Read more
