How does diabetes cause people to lose their foot? What is the relationship between a person having diabetes and the problems I see them having with their feet? My neighbor is constantly in the hospital for her foot because of her diabetes, why?

What can I do to grow beta cells ?
Re: Diabetes
Hi Mackin69,
What are you planning to do with these beta cells? Do you have the resources available to you to actually grow these cells (i.e. cell culture media, tissue culture dishes/flasks, a 37 degree incubator, biosafety hood, etc.)? For example, do you have access to any science labs and do they have the equipment necessary for the tissue culture work? If there are science labs in the vicinity of where you live who work…

anti-diabetes
anti-diabetes
Hello everyone, I'm currently working on my final project. I want to know the effects of heavy metals gotten from anti-diabetic herbal tea.
Re: anti-diabetes
Hello there,
It would be really helpful if you could provide us with more details about what your main question is, what your hypothesis is, and the experiments you used (or will use) to test your hypothesis so that we can provide as much help as we could. Why are you looking at the heavy metal contents of…

Hi,
When people have diabetes, their islet or beta cells are being attacked by the immune system so why don't scientists just invent a device that produces insulin or islet cells and put it in their bodies?
Re: Diabetes
Hi Billybog,
I believe scientists are working on this approach, however, there are some issues with it that they need to improve. I've attached one article about Islet transplantation, however, you should feel free to look for more. I recommend going to…

Dealing with Diabetes: Artificial Pancreas/Diabetes Project
Dealing with Diabetes: Artificial Pancreas/Diabetes Project
Hi,
I am conducting a science fair experiment based on the resources from the Dealing with Diabetes: The Road to Developing an Artificial Pancreas site. I see that this experiment is simply a "yes or no", or can you build it or not. Do you have any suggestions as to how to add a clear independent and dependent variable to this experiment, and have quantitative data as…

Diabetes Science Experiment
Diabetes Science Experiment
I have type 1 diabetes along with my dad and sister. I want to do my science experiment on Diabetes. I was thinking of doing something with how diets and exercise will affect blood sugars, but its been done so many times. I've decided to turn to you for help. Any ideas?
Re: Diabetes Science Experiment
If you are particularly interested in how diet and exercise affect blood sugar, then I don't think you should immediately dismiss it…

Moringa for Diabetes
Moringa for Diabetes
Hello,
My partner and I are planning to complete a project on Moringa Oleifera, specifically its efficacy in treating diabetes. We were wondering, is there any way to formulate an experiment without using mice, because that is how the majority of research had been done.
Thanks,
Meenakshi Singhal
Re: Moringa for Diabetes
Hi Meenakshi,
There's probably not an easy way for you to do this. Instead of working in animals, labs often work with…

Diabetes Project Help
Hello,
I am interested in the following science buddies project: https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science-fair-projects/project-ideas/HumBio_p040/human-biology-health/developing-an-artificial-pancreas#summary
However, I want to make it my own by creating something that is more like an actual artificial pancreas. After doing research, I'm still not exactly sure how to do this. Any guidance or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
Also, I was…
