Can You Create a Strategic Connect 4 AI Opponent?

Science Fair Project Idea

Engineering Design Process

When you play Connect 4, what strategies do you use to increase your chances of winning? In this project, you will explore how artificial intelligence can make decisions in two-player games such as Connect 4. This project requires little to no coding skill. Instead, you will need patience and an open mind. Why not give it a try yourself? Read more

What's the Fastest Way to Solve Rubik's Cube?

Science Fair Project Idea

Scientific Method

If you like solving challenging puzzles, this could be a good project for you. In this project you will research different methods for solving a Rubik's cube, and then do an experiment to compare them to each other. Which method works fastest? Read more

Sleep Tracking: The Brain and Circadian Rhythm's Role in Sleep

Science Fair Project Idea

Scientific Method

Everybody sleeps, but not everybody has good quality sleep. Sleep is essential for the brain, but how do our daily choices impact sleep? In this science project, you will experiment and explore factors that influence your nighttime sleep schedule. Read more

Slippery Slopes and Sticking Surfaces: Explore the Forces of Friction

Science Fair Project Idea

Scientific Method

Whoopee! No matter what age, who doesn't like flying down the slides at parks and pools? In this experiment, you might be surprised what you can learn about the fascinating forces of friction while sliding down (or sticking to) those fun, slippery slopes. Caution: only speed demons need apply for this activity. Read more

Can Visualization Improve Your Sports Performance?

Science Fair Project Idea

Scientific Method

Did you know that athletes use visualization of sports tasks to score the winning shot in sporting games? Check out how much visualization impacts your precision in sports with this science project idea. Read more

Smarter Farming with Aerial Photo Analysis

Science Fair Project Idea

Scientific Method

Wondering what sustainable, high-producing agriculture might look like? This science project explores how analyzing bird's-eye-view pictures of a field can make farmers aware of variations in their fields. Farmers can use this information to optimize their farming practices, or even feed this information to high-tech agricultural equipment so the machines can automatically adjust their actions (like fertilizing or watering) to the needs of a piece of land. Using a Digital Camera to Measure Skyglow

Science Fair Project Idea

Scientific Method

This is a great project for someone interested in both stargazing and photography. Bright city lights and even the light of the full Moon obscure the dimmest stars, which can make identifying constellations more difficult. In this astronomy science project, you will calibrate a digital camera to measure the skyglow in different locations. This can be a great tool to comparing the quality of different star viewing locations. Read more

Planet Hunters TESS

Science Fair Project Idea

Scientific Method

The Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) is a space telescope for NASA's Explorers program, designed to search for exoplanets using the transit method in an area 400 times larger than that covered by the Kepler mission. It was launched on April 18, 2018 atop a Falcon 9 rocket. During its two-year primary mission, it was expected to find more than 20,000 transiting exoplanets, compared to about 3,800 exoplanets known when it launched. The first light image from TESS was taken on August… Read more

Unleash the Power of a Pinwheel!

Science Fair Project Idea

Scientific Method

How do you feel when you ride your bike into a strong wind? Do your legs feel like lead? How about when the wind is at your back? Does that make you feel ready for the Tour de France? In this science fair project, you will investigate how wind-powered devices, like pinwheels, also react in different ways to the direction of the wind. Read more

BLASTing Flu Viruses

Science Fair Project Idea

Scientific Method

Remember going to the doctor and getting vaccine shots? It is no fun getting poked with a needle, but fortunately, a vaccine helps our immune system to develop protection against a serious illness for years to come. But what about the flu vaccine? How come there is a new one every year? This science fair project will show you why. Read more
